Professional Experience
Tony Smith has arranged nearly one billion dollars in equity and debt financing, using his strong financial background to gain the lowest possible rates and flexible deal structures. He has negotiated several hundred leases in the past twenty years, including fifteen totaling over 750,000 square feet for the state and federal governments. He has served as project manager for nearly 1,500,000 square feet of speculative and build‐to‐suit projects, delivering projects on time and under budget.
Industry Activities
He is very active in national and local industry organizations, serving as the National President of the Institute of Real Estate Management in 2004 and 2005. As President, Tony represented the Institute’s 17,000 members throughout the world and taught its course, “Managing Real Estate as an Investment.”
Tony also serves as Visiting Lecturer at the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business, teaching Real Estate Finance and Development. He is consistently one of the highest‐rated professors based on student surveys.
In addition to his role at RDG, he serves as Vice Chairman of CB Richard Ellis of Virginia, providing strategic, operational, and financial guidance to the regional firm.
